DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (CMC):

The West Indies Women’s woes in their ongoing T20I series against Australia Women were compounded after they were fined 10 per cent of their match fee for maintaining a slow over rate in last Thursday’s opening match.

The home side was adjudged by match referee Reon King to have been two overs short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration, after on-field umpires Lauren Agenbag and Jacquline Williams, third umpire Candace La Borde and fourth umpire Maria Abbott levelled the charge.

Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel states that for minimum over-rate offences, players are fined five per cent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time.

West Indies Women’s captain Hayley Matthews pleaded guilty to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction, which rules out the need for a formal hearing.

At press time last night, the West Indies, who trailed the three-match series 2-0, were facing a mammoth 212 if they were to register a consolation.
