Joseph, Taylor progress as Voll cracks ICC top 10
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (CMC):
West Indies batters Qiana Joseph and Stafanie Taylor have made significant gains in the latest ICC Women’s T20I Rankings, which saw a host of movement following the first two matches of the home series against Australia.
While the spotlight was claimed by Australia opener Georgia Voll, who entered the top 10 for the first time after a brisk knock of 39 in the second match, it was the home side’s batting unit that provided several standout stories in the rankings update. After the rankings, Voll went on to score an even more brisk 101 from just 53 balls in the third T20I on Monday.
Opening batter Qiana Joseph was a major climber, soaring 14 places to 33rd in the batting charts after scoring 56 runs across three innings, including a top score of 45.
Veteran all-rounder Stafanie Taylor also made welcome progress, moving up two places to 48th after contributing 50 across two innings, with a best of 28.
Their rises were part of a broader shuffle in the batting rankings. Elsewhere, New Zealand’s Sophie Devine climbed two spots to 18th following successive half-centuries against South Africa, while Australia’s Ellyse Perry (up two places to 20th) and New Zealand’s Maddy Green (up two places to 44th) also registered gains.
In a remarkable feat, 15-year-old Fanny Utagushimaninde of Rwanda entered the rankings in 66th position after becoming the first woman to score a century on T20I debut.
On the bowling front, the West Indies saw no changes inside the top 10, but South Africa’s left-arm spinner Nonkululeko Mlaba broke into that elite group, climbing from 11th to ninth after taking five wickets in three matches. Australia’s Georgia Wareham also moved up from 16th to 12th.
New Zealand’s Jess Kerr achieved a career-best 15th position after an impressive haul of eight wickets in the first four matches against South Africa. Ayabonga Khaka (up five places to 36th) and Australia’s Kim Garth (up 35 places to 44th) were among the other notable movers.
