Champs 2026 | Excelsior’s Riquelme Reid’s sprint double bid ends after 200m pull-up
Excelsior High School sprinter Riquelme Reid saw his hopes of winning the boys’ Class One sprint double dashed after pulling up in his heat of the 200m at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls Athletics Championships on Thursday.
Reid, who captured the 100m title on Wednesday in a personal best 10.12 seconds, pulled up on the curve and was unable to finish the race.
Meanwhile, Sanjay Seymore of William Knibb Memorial High School leads all qualifiers into the Class One 200m semifinals with a time of 21.03.
He will be joined by Junior Galimore of Hydel High School (21.09), Deequan Maragh of Camperdown High School (21.10), Tyreece Foreman of St George’s College (21.18), and Tenny Daley among the leading qualifiers.
In the boys’ Class Two 200m, Emmile Higgins of Kingston College clocked 21.64 to lead all qualifiers into the semifinals.
Mario Ross of Wolmer’s Boys’ School, the 100m champion, also advanced after winning his heat comfortably in 22.28.
Other main qualifiers include Kalel Archibald of Edwin Allen High School (21.71), Rajaun Romelly of St Jago High School (21.87), and Tiene Barrett of Rusea’s High School (21.87).
In the boys’ Class Three event, Ajani Lumley of Wolmer’s Boys’ School stayed on course for the sprint double after winning his heat in 22.89 to advance to the semifinals.
Lumley had earlier secured the 100m title on Wednesday.
His teammate Joshua McWilliams, the 100m silver medallist, also progressed after recording the fastest time of 22.82 to win his heat.
Other leading qualifiers include Darrian Edwards of Kingston College (22.91), DeAndre Parker of Jamaica College (23.39), Kellan Harris of Kingston College (23.41), Neville Debton of Manchester High School (23.44), Tariq Creary of Jamaica College (23.47), and J’den Fisher of St Jago High School (23.23).
