Police seize cocaine, arrest Dominicans

SAN JUAN (CMC):

The police in Puerto Rico, along with officials from US Customs and Border Protection (CBP), on Wednesday arrested three nationals from the Dominican Republic and seized 174.07 pounds of cocaine after they landed near a beach in Dorado – to the west of here.

The police report that on Wednesday morning, a concerned citizen contacted CBP Public Affairs with information on suspicious activity on a Dorado beach.

The information was relayed to the Caribbean Air and Marine Operations Center agents and the Puerto Rico Police Department.

Border Patrol agents confirmed the smuggling event took place and discovered a 22-foot, yola-type, home-made vessel with two outboard engines beached on shore.

After an extensive search of the area, the men from the Dominican Republic were arrested, and four bales containing bricks, which field-tested positive to the properties of cocaine.

Homeland Security Investigations took custody of the men and the contraband for analysis and prosecution.
