Restaurant visited by positive COVID visitors fails to log visit

GRENADA HEALTH authorities on Wednesday expressed their disappointment that one of the restaurants visited by a United States doctor and his wife, who later tested positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19), failed to properly document the visit.

“One of the establishments was not following the protocol at that point in time and, therefore, the risk of exposure is considered to be quite high,” said Dr Shawn Charles, acting chief medical officer in the Ministry of Health, adding that “the establishment failed us”.

The 65-year-old doctor and his 53-year-old wife were in home quarantine when they breached the regulations while awaiting the result of the second PCR test. They had tested negative upon arrival at the Maurice Bishop International Airport.

Breaching the COVID-19 quarantine regulations is a criminal offence and carries a maximum fine of EC$10,000 (one EC dollar = US$0.37 cents) or six months’ imprisonment.

As part of the measures to control and contain the spread of COVID-19 following the lockdown of the country, businesses are required to comply with a number of protocols as part of the measures to ensure their continued operations.
