Man charged with murdering his mother

Police have charged a 53-year-old man with murdering his mother, whose body was found at her home at Blackstone in Jacmel, a small village south of here, on December 31 last year.
A police statement said that on arrival at the house, the “unresponsive body of a female with visible marks of violence” had been discovered and that a post-mortem examination later revealed that Florence Augustin died as a result of strangulation.
“The son of the deceased, Lenny Augustin, a 53-year-old construction worker and resident of Jacmel, has been formally arrested and charged for causing her death,” the statement said.
It said that the murder charges were laid on Tuesday and that the son will appear in the First District Court for a bail hearing.
