Guyanese nationals shot and killed
PARAMARIBO, Suriname (CMC):
Suriname police are continuing investigations this week into the execution-style murder of two Guyanese nationals, who were shot multiple times on Tuesday night.
The men have since been identified as Jerimiah Smith and Oswick Bazillio, who themselves were both suspected of being linked to murder cases in Guyana.
Media reports are that the men had been hiding out in Suriname and that Bazillio was suspected of being involved in the murder of Joseph Wilkinson, called ‘Dreddy’, while Smith was linked to the recent murder of Clynton Chase.
Wilkinson was killed in February, while 70-year-old Chase was shot dead in front of his La Penitence home last week.
Guyana Police Crime Chief Wendel Blanhum said the Surinamese Police Force informed authorities in Georgetown of the double murder and that investigations are ongoing.
The men were shot on Rubenstraat in Paramaribo North. The body of one of the men was found lying on the roadside while the other was found with a snaffle, a common type of horse bit.
Police have since removed a car at the scene that had been riddled with bullets.
