Gate at police outpost blown off by homemade explosive
GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC – Police have launched an investigation after an improvised explosive device was thrown into the compound of the East Ruimveldt Police Outpost early Saturday morning, blowing a gate off its hinges.
The incident occurred around 12:40 a.m. A female constable on duty reported hearing two loud explosions at the southern side of the compound. Upon checking, she discovered the southern gate was missing and immediately notified her superiors.
According to a police statement, ranks from the Crime Scene Unit responded and found the metal gate completely blown off and lying about six feet away, damaged.
Nearby residents also reported hearing two explosions, followed by the sound of objects hitting their roofs.
No injuries were reported.
According to online news outlet Demerara Waves, investigators recovered bolts, nuts, and fragments of a shattered hard plastic container from the scene.
