High jumper Porter remains in top form

Manchester High's Chanice Porter was again in top form at the GraceKennedy-sponsored St Elizabeth Technical (STETHS) development meet in Santa Cruz yesterday.

Porter who cleared 1.85 metres at the Jamaica College development meet earlier this month, yesterday cleared 1.80 metres in the Class Two high jump.

Peta-Gaye Reid of STETHS and Kimberly Williamson of Edwin Allen, national representatives at last year's World Youth Championships in Italy, were second and third with 1.75m.

Vere Technical's Shaneka Thomas topped the Class One event clearing 1.75m to beat Rochelle Reid of STETHS (1.60m).

Opal James of STETHS took the girls' Class Three long jump with a leap of 5.71m.

In the boys' Class Two high jump, Wolmer's pair of Jason Lewis and Smith Maulford, both cleared 1.80m.

On the track, Nikita Tracey (61.5 seconds) beat her sister and Edwin Allen High teammate, Ristananna, (62.1) in the girls' 400m hurdles Open.

top honours

In the boys' 400m hurdles, Jodirae Blackwood of Munro took top honours in 55.77. Former Jamaica representative Ian Weakley was on hand and he presented the awards to all the hurdlers.

Giovoni Mowatt of Munro won the boys' 1500m Class One event, running 4:13.6, while top man Kemoy Campbell of Bellefield was fourth overall in 4:17.2. He is expected to compete in the High Mountain 10K today.

Clarendon College's Delano Rochester took the Class Three 1500m in 4:44.7.
