Amal Ellis of Bridgeport and Naggo Head's Kahsema Carter captured the boys' long jump open and girls' high jump open events, respectively, on yesterday's second day of the four-day Institute of Sports (INSPORTS)/Swizzzle Primary Schools Championships at the National Stadium.

Ellis captured the long jump with a leap of 5.09m, ahead of Lafranz Campbell of Portsmouth, (5.05m) and Daniel Dawkins of St Benedict's (4.90m). The 12-year-old Ellis, who is a great admirer of Olympic champion and world 100m and 200m record holder Usain Bolt, said he was delighted with his achievement.

"I feel very good because this is my first gold medal at this championship," said Ellis, who said he would like to attend Wolmer's Boys after he leaves Bridgeport.

"I would like to attend Wolmer's because they have a lot of sports and their grades are very high," he said. Ellis added: "I had to train very hard for this because I practise like four hours per day during the week and also on Saturdays."

1.48m leap

Carter won the high jump with a leap of 1.48m, ahead of her teammate Kelcian Andrade, (1.45m), and Trisanya Mitchell (1.40m).

After two finals, Naggo Head lead the standings with 16 points, ahead of Spanish Town (10), St Benedict's and Bridgeport (nine), Portsmouth (seven), and Gregory Park and St Catherine (five) and New Providence (four).

Meanwhile, two finals will be contested on today's third day. They are the boys' high jump and girls' long jump. Action starts at 9 a.m.
