Celebrate Mother's Day weekend with 'Appropriate Behaviour'

Published:Saturday | May 8, 2010 | 12:00 AM

The award-winning University Players will be staging its production of Barbara Gloudon's hilarious comedy Appropriate Behaviour this weekend at the Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts with additional performances through to May 16. Shows begin today at 8 p.m. and tomorrow at 5 and 8 p.m.

In this witty and fast-moving production which explores the world of work, and office life in particular, Gloudon turns her penetrating gaze on the interactions between workers and management that anyone who has ever worked in a Jamaican office will readily recognise.

The University Players' all-star cast is led by Nadean Rawlins, Marguerite Newland, Christopher McFarlane, Rishille Pelicie, Nadia Khan, Marsha-Ann Hay, Jean-Paul Menou, Melward Morris and Maurice Bryan, who play alongside some familiar Mona campus faces such as Althea Gordon-Clennon, Nicosia Shakes, Kashka Hemans and Martin Thame. Appropriate Behaviour is directed by award-winning director Brian Heap.

There is something for everyone in this production, from the earthy observations of Katy and Andy, the ancillary staff, to the hilarious antics of the administrative staff Jean, Ivy, Horace and Sam, as well as the frustrated attempts to maintain order by middle management in the form of Mrs Salamander and Ms Patience. Office punchbag Chris and executive consultants Karen and Doug complete the picture, and together produce a recipe for a memorable and life-changing office party.
