University of West Indies (UWI) Revolution and G.C. Foster Strikers captured the Supreme Ventures divisional A and C League titles, respectively, at the National Indoor Sports Centre on Saturday.
In the opening C League match, G.C. Foster recorded a comfortable 33-25 win over Job Lane United, while UWI Revolution stopped Jetsetters A 55-42.
Alicia Williams led the scoring for UWI Revolution with 42 goals from 47 attempts. She received solid support from Shawnett Karr, who scored 13 goals from 18 tries.
Shantal Edwards, 26 from 31, and Annett Miller, 16 from 26, were the scorers for Jetsetters A.
GC Foster DOMINATE
In the opening match, the St Catherine-based G.C. Foster dominated the first half and ended with a comfortable 18-10 lead at half-time.
However, Job Lane stepped up their game in the third quarter, mainly through the effort of their goal shooter, Vanessa McLaughlin, who scored six goals in the period, as they outscored their opponents 9-5 to trail 23-19 at the end of the period.
G.C. Foster then took control of the game in the final quarter, with their leading scorer Marsha Haye, who netted seven of her game-high 21 goals in the period, converting well. In the process, they outscored Job Lane 10-6 and romped to a comfortable win.
Haye received good support from Nardia White, who netted 12 of 19 attempts. Maidie Reid was the second top scorer for Job Lane, netting six from seven tries.
Vanessa Russell, captain of G.C. Foster, was delighted.
"I am feeling good because we wanted to win very badly, from the start of the season, and we were able to do that today and now I am feeling very happy," said Russell.
"We started out a bit rocky, but we motivated each other and we just carried out the instructions that were given to us by our coaches and we maintained our lead to the end," she said.
"I think that the championship will help encourage others to join our team next year because there a lot of talented players at G.C. Foster and we would love to have them on board next year," added Russell.
