Digicel Premier League hopefuls Reno, Cavalier, Meadows and Benfica, will have to put their ambitions of qualifying for the top flight on hold as the civil unrest, which continues to plague the Corporate Area, has forced the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) to postpone the competition.

With only two rounds already played, the competition was expected to continue today.

However, a release issued by the JFF yesterday, citing 'continuing instability in the country', advised that the matches had been put off until further notice. The round would have seen Meadows travelling to face Reno, the only unbeaten team left in the competition, while Cavalier would have hosted a winless Benfica.

second goal

Reno, favourites to advance from the play-offs in first position, continued their run of good form as they edged Benfica 1-0 at Drax Hall on Sunday. Sheldon Bryan scored his second goal in as many games, when he netted in the 33rd minute.

Reno moved to the top of the table with six points, as they had opened their campaign with a 2-0 win over Cavalier.

Meanwhile, Cavalier got back on track with a 3-0 win over Meadows at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex on Sunday. Julian Nugent led the way for the KSAFA representatives with a brace in the 37th and 68th minutes, with Valin Cameron scoring the other goal in the 67th minute.

The loss was not only the first of the play-offs for the St Catherine team, but also their first this season.

The win moved Cavalier into second spot, tied with Meadows on three points each, but ahead on goal difference. St Ann's Benfica remain rooted to the bottom of the table without a point.
