St Catherine pulled off a narrow two-wicket win over Jonathan Grant High to capture the 2010 ISSA/Allied Insurance Urban Area Under-16 Colts cricket title at Melbourne Oval yesterday.

Scores: Jonathan Grant 76, St Catherine 77 for eight.

Jonathan Grant were 64-3 at one stage, but were undermined by off-spinning all-rounder, Jermaine Innis, who claimed 6-21.

The St John's Road-based St Catherine, who almost made a hash of the total - being 33-6 at one stage - were led in scoring by Clayton Daley, 19, and Raaj Wright, 12. Jamel Bryan (3-54) took most wickets for the losers.

Somewhat sweet revenge

"This is somewhat sweet revenge as in 2003 Jonathan Grant defeated us by one wicket," said St Catherine coach Stanford Hudson.

"We saw that the outfield was heavy due to the recent rains and that the conditions were humid and after winning the toss our bowlers utilised it well."

Jonathan Grant's coach, Rita Scott, said her charges batted poorly, but thought they should have won.

"After our low total we had the match to win, but we dropped catches at crucial stages and some of the players lost their focus," she said.

Innis, who also took a hat-trick in his spell, was supported by Michael Wisdom, 2-2, while Ramone Mairne, 33, and Wayne Powell, 14, top-scored for the Spanish Town-based Jonathan Grant.
