Hydel in record form on Day Two

The first record of the 33rd staging of the Jamaica Independent Schools' Association (JISA) Inter-Prep Schools Track and Field Championship was established on yesterday's second day of competition at the National Stadium.
The feat was achieved by Hydel Prep in the fourth heat of the boys 4x100m relay Class Two, when they romped to victory in 53.10 seconds to eclipse the previous mark of 53.53 seconds, which was also set by Hydel, back in 2007.
If Hydel executes in the final as they did yesterday, they should take the event comfortably, as the next best qualifying time was Vaz Prep's 53.65.
The next highlight of the day came in the first of the four finals - the girls' high jump for Class Two, which was won by Wolmer's Prep's Abihail Myrie. She cleared 1.35m to go with her gold medal in the girls' long jump Class Two, which she won on the opening day with a leap of 4.22m.
Second in the girls' high jump Class Two went to Myrie's teammate, Anthonette Whyte (1.35m), while third went to Ardenne Prep's Seana Kaye Wright (1.30m).
Ardenne Prep's William Green took the second final of the day, the boys' long jump Class One with a leap of 5.23m. The Vaz Prep pair of Alex Robinson (5.15m) and Luke Walters (4.99) took second and third, respectively.
Green's win helped his school to end the penultimate day of the championship in the lead with 55.50 points. The top six is rounded out by Vaz (48), Wolmer's (41), Quest (29.50), Mona (21) and Hydel (20).
Pleased with his performance
Eleven-year-old Green was pleased with his performance and expects his school to win the Bigga-sponsored championships.
"I feel good. My coach told me everything that I am supposed to do and that's what I did and that's why I came out victorious," said Green.
"I think my school will come first," he added.
The girl's long jump Class One final was keenly contested with the eventual winner, Mona Prep's Toni-Ann Farquharson, and the Ardenne Prep pair of Kathleen Smith (second) and Celia Lawson (third) all clearing 1.45m. However, they were placed based on the number of attempts they utilised (count- back).
Vaz Prep's Danielle Spence had no such problem in capturing the girl's long jump Class One, leaping 4.84 metres. Second went to Hydel Prep's Ayeshia Morgan (4.74m), while Aedenne Prep's Celia Lawson (4.65m) captured third.
