St Jago's High's Jodiann Morris copped the Most Valuable Player prize for the Locker Room Sports/ ISSA schoolgirls football awards ceremony, which was held the Terra Nova Hotel in Kingston on Wednesday.

Morris, a national Under-20 representative, scored 32 goals in the competition, which led her team to a third-place finish in this year's tournament.

St Jago were beaten by eventual champions Lennon in the semi-final.

"I feel extremely wonderful as I was expecting it because I scored four goals in the third-place play-off and I also played well throughout the season and so thanks be to God," said Morris, who is also the captain of her team.

"I think that this was a tremendous season, for me because it was my last year at St Jago, and from the season, begun I told myself that I am going to work very hard to make it the best, and it paid off for me because we finished third and I am satisfied with that," said the 18-year-old Morris, who represents Portmore Strikers in the Sherwin Williams Women's League.

David Shirley, managing director of Locker Room Sports, said he was pleased with the overall standard of the competition and they were looking forward to another exciting year.

A fantastic job

"I think that ISSA did a fantastic job and their organisational and sports management skills are excellent, and we are very happy to be a part of it," said Shirley.

"I watched the finals and the level of play was very good, and in terms of the discipline, I think that the ladies carried themselves fairly well because it was very competitive, and I believe that they need to just continue to train and promote the sport," Shirley added.

Meanwhile, Sasher-lee Cooper and Shena Wint, both of Lennon, took home the best defender and best goalkeeper awards, respectively.

Shanel Spence of Excelsior won the Most Promising Young Player award, while Merron Gordon, coach of Lennon, was voted the Coach of the Year.

Christiana collected the top rural school award, while Trench Town High was the Most Improved School.
