Sutherland's new video controversial
Nadine Sutherland is one of the most successful Jamaican female singers of her generation. The now-famous 'cougar' is a veteran with more than two decades of hits under her belt.
Looking at her, it is hard to believe she has been around that long.
Sutherland's youthful presence compares favourably with much younger women and she has managed to stay on top of her game, vocally.
The veteran artiste recently concluded a promotional 12-city, three-week tour of the United States with young songstress Denyque. Now that she's back, she is planning to continue the extensive promotion of her latest single, Cougar. Apart from that she will be releasing the much-anticipated video for that single, which will feature Jamaican hit-list men such as sprinter Yohan Blake and Reggae Boy Fabian Davis. Feedback to the Cougar video, Sutherland said, has been mixed because of the controversial topic it explores.
New paradigm
"The feedback has been phenomenal but some people think it is controversial because of the theme. Older women are looking more youthful despite their age so it is speaking of a new paradigm. In Jamaica, it is still taboo and people shove it under the carpet but I am proud to express myself," she said.
Sutherland said she was ultimately focused on completing her album which aims at chronicling her journey from Starvation on the line to Cougar.
