Cummings on target as Rapids draw 2-2
NEW YORK CITY (CMC):
Omar Cummings' opening goal helped Colorado Rapids earn a 2-2 draw away to Chicago Fire on Wednesday at Toyota Park.
The Reggae Boyz striker gave the Rapids a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute, when he drilled a right-footed, daisy-cutter low and to the right of Fire keeper Andrew Dykstra to open the score in Bridgeview, Illinois.
Chicago came storming back with two goals from Marco Pappa - two minutes after Cummings' strike and in stoppage time before the half-time whistle.
The Rapids absorbed several raids from the home side, and the 27-year-old Cummings kept up his high work ethic.
He hit the inside of the far post in the 70th minute with the goal gaping, and had another shot saved by Dykstra from point-blank range two minutes from time to deny the man from Old Harbour his fourth goal of the season.
Connor Casey earned Colorado a share of the points with an emphatic header deep in stoppage time before the final whistle.
79th-minute goal
In the night's other match, Andy Williams, another Jamaican, and his Real Salt Lake side edged compatriot Donovan Ricketts and the visiting LA Galaxy 1-0 compliments of Javier Morales 79th-minute goal in Sandy, Utah.
The match was the last for each team for about three weeks as the MLS takes a break during the FIFA 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
