Maritime Authority shows at Greek trade fair

Aspects of Jamaica's maritime industry were on show last week, June 7-11, at the world-renowned Posidonia Conference in Greece.

On show was the Maritime Authority of Jamaica's Kingston and German offices, Caribbean Maritime Institute, Lannaman and Morris and the Jamaican business, Aegean Bunkering.

Represented by officers from the Maritime Authority, Jamaica's viability as a shipping centre was presented to the many shipowners, managers, lawyers and other maritime affiliates. Visitors were informed of Jamaica's shipping developments, including efforts to establish a floating dry dock in Kingston.

The conference was also used as the perfect backdrop to sign up Adora Investments as the new marketing agency for the highly important Greek shipping market, as the Jamaica Ship Registry seeks to attract new tonnage.

According to Bert Smith, director of legal affairs at the authority, who attended the conference, "the Greek market is a key area of focus for the Maritime Authority and Adora Investments, with its strong reputation in the Greek ship brokering and chartering sectors, will now start to sell the benefits of the Jamaican flag to the Greek ship owners."

Posidonia is a biennial conference of the Greek shipping community that attracts shipping interests worldwide. This year saw more than 18,000 visitors from 87 countries. There were 1,859 exhibitors across an area of 31,000 square metres, which also saw a record 21 national pavilions.
