Can relate? There's a song for everything!
Kimesha Henry,Gleaner Writer
Many times I find myself singing songs depending on my mood, and this is probably the case with a lot of persons. With a plethora of genres to choose from - hip hop, R&B, dancehall, gospel and reggae - it causes one to think: isn't there a song for everything that happens in your life?
What's your song right now? Find out what four Saturday Gleaner readers had to say.
The theme song of 25-year-old Ryan's life right now is Don't Ever Wonder by Maxwell.
According to Ryan, "The chorus is a reassurance of my feelings towards a girl: 'If you don't know, then I'll say it, so don't ever wonder.'
"Sometimes there's someone who should know how you feel, but for some reason they are sceptical. Words probably won't make it any easier for them to accept or believe what you feel, but sometimes it's all you have."
He goes on to say that it's infuriating when you have all these emotions pent up and they are disregarded. Yes, Ryan, unrequited love sucks.
For 29-year-old Mariah, she's not seeking to reassure somebody. If anything, she's wondering if he has lost his mind!
"Right about now, that Beyoncé's song, Lost Yo Mind, seems like it was written for me. Men are the absolute worst! But you know what, like she said, 'I could shed so many tears but I won't let you see me crying'."
And from a high-strung, venting Beyoncé, we move to a mellower and in-love version, which is how Samantha from Kingston is viewing life.
She sighs happily before saying, "Definitely, the song of my life, at least for now, is Destiny's Child's Dangerously in Love, because, as corny as it may sound, that's how I feel. I only hope it lasts."
Who knows, maybe that's what Mariah was thinking before the object of her ire lost his mind.
The stories and experiences are different, but variety is the spice of life after all. Here we have Brian, who sheepishly admits that his song of the moment is Can't Be My Lover.
As he explains it, "That song by Buju Banton and John Legend is just perfect for me right now. Call me selfish, but like Buju said, "Would like to have my cake and even enjoy the pie."
I won't say that I can just imagine some men nodding in agreement, and some women just shaking their heads at the seeming hopelessness of it all.
