Music 'Flo's' through her soul

Florence Darby is plugged into music. The Telstar Cable Limited head, a trained lawyer, is known for her business savvy and some may also know about her other passion, music.

"Are you kidding? Music is in my soul. It makes me feel alive," she said in an email interview.

Today, she will be participating in, Love Offering, a concert which will feature Commander John McFarlane, Byron Bellamy (a baritone), Rishille Pelicie (singer and actress), accompanied by Touch of Elegance.

"It is as honour to perform on the stage with Commander John McFarlane who always inspirational," she said. Along with the other talented performers on the show.

The event will also mark the launch of her 12-track album Truly Wonderful. Her first album was Spirit of the Islands.

Darby began loving music at an early age.

"I started singing at church from childhood. Later, at Ardenne High School, under the tutelage of Noel Dexter, I entered the National Festival Competition singing solos and choral pieces and won many medals. I graduated to the Youth Fellowship Singers and Kingston Singers, and later the University Singers where I performed many solo presentations," she said.

The concert, which will be held at Boulevard Baptist Church, will feature a plethora of genres including gospel, classical, contemporary and and the various rhythms of the Caribbean. Tickets are available at Music Mart, Telstar, and Church of God office on 35 Hope Road.Darby draws a lot from music.

"I try to learn the words of songs and believe whenever you have a need the words are there to help you to centre, to focus, to worship, to mediate, to guide, to comfort, to love. That is the power of music, and that is why you must be careful what you listen to and what you sing. I never sing anything out of my value base," she said.
