Westmoreland New Hope Junior High School and Portland's Port Antonio Primary were yesterday crowned champions in their respective categories of the Jamaica Cricket Association-organised JN/Sports Development Foundation Primary and All-Age competitions at Melbourne Oval.

New Hope Junior High, who were capturing the title for the second year in a row, defeated St Mary's Highgate by eight wickets, while Port Antonio, who were claiming their first, got the better of New Hope Primary by 17 runs.

In the second game of a double-header, New Hope Junior High raced to 91-2 off 13.3 overs, after being set a target of 88.

Trevor Spence, 43 not out, and Brandon Reid, 20 not out, led the way for the boys from Westmoreland, while, bowling for Highgate, Twayne King claimed 2-18.

"It's a good achievement, even though as a coach, I was hoping to take the double," said New Hope's coach, Grantley Reid, who also coaches New Hope Primary.

The first match almost went down to the wire. Batting first, Port Antonio made 104-4 off their mandatory 25 overs, with Jablan Lindsay getting 43 and Danjay Williams 33 not out. Raheem Geffers took 2-17.

New Hope Primary were then restricted to 87 off 22.4 overs, with Anthony Guinness and Ian Curtis copping two wickets each, and Lamar Scott making 13.
