A great deal of fireworks is expected in the women's 100 and 400 metres events at today's Prefontaine Classic Diamond League Track and Field meet in Eugene, Oregon, as Jamaica's top athletes get set to challenge their counterparts from the United States in what is expected to be mouth-watering clashes.

The United States Carmelita Jeter, who has been dominating the Jamaicans in the 100 metres so far this season, will be looking to maintain her dominance,

while she faces Sherone Simpson, Veronica Campbell-Brown and Shelly-Ann Fraser in an event which is expected to be a humdinger.

Jeter, who is unbeaten this season, is one of three females to have run sub-11 so far with a best of 10.98 seconds.

This time around, it should be much more difficult for Jeter to continue her winning ways as all three Jamaicans have been in top form recently.

Fraser, the Olympic and World champion, is coming off a good 200-metre win at the National Championships a week ago, where she breezed to a fast 22.49 seconds. Running her pet event, she could steal the show as she looks to make up for her last appearance this season, where she was disqualified for a false start for a 100-metre event.

Campbell-Brown is also coming off a good 200-metre victory, as she beat the United States' Allyson Felix at the Adidas Diamond League meet in New York.

Then, Campbell-Brown clocked a world-leading 21.98 seconds, and with her improved start this season, she could easily go all the way.

Following her win at the National Senior Championships, where she clocked a season-best 11.12 seconds, Simpson seems to be getting back to form and is expected to pose a big challenge.

After posting a world-leading time of 49.64 seconds to win the United States National Championships 400 metres a week ago, Jamaica-born Debbie Dunn will get her sternest test this season, as a strong field has been entered for the one-lap event, with all the top 400m females entered.

Felix, with a season-best 50.15 and Natasha Hastings, with 50.34, are the other top Americans in the event.

Jamaica's number one this season, national champion, Novlene Williams-Mills, has been in immaculate form and will be hoping to improve her season-best 50.32 seconds to go all the way.

Her teammate, Shericka Williams, the World Championships' silver medallist, has been improving steadily after a slow start.

Also in the event is Botsawon Amantle Montsho, a winner at the Adidas Diamond League meet in New York. Her season-best is 50.34.
