It was joy and happiness for members of the Spanish Town Spartans team as they gained their first hold on the Institute of Sports Community Basketball Championships, following their comfortable 60-51 win over Saints on Tuesday at the National Stadium Courts.

The Spartans won the best-of-three 2-0, after victory over their opponents in game one on Sunday at the same venue.

Rohan Allen, coach of the Spartans, said he was delighted with his team's performance during the series. "It was a good victory for us because I thought my players really played well and they also stuck to the game plan," said Allen.

"I am very happy that we have won this championship, because we really needed it and the players told themselves from the start that they were going to win it and they did, and I am very proud of them," Allen added.

Lynford Brown led the way for the Spartans with a team-high 16 points, which saw them holding a 30-20 lead at half-time. The Spartans led 44-40 at the end of the third quarter. Brown received solid support from Christopher Jennings with 10 points.

Conroy Morgan was the leading scorer for the Saints, with a game-high 18 points. He received good support from Fabian McCarthy and Elvenda Norman, who scored nine and eight points, respectively.

Spartans took home the winning trophy and $100,000, while the Saints collected the runners-up trophy and $50,000.

Both teams have now been promoted the National Basketball League competition next season.

Arnett Gardens Rockers won the third-place title, with a 64-60 win over Eastern Pistons. Vivian Spence, 17 points, and Kwayme Lawrence, 16, were the leading scorers for the Rockers. Jermaine Miller, 16 points, was the main scorer for the Pistons.
