Former Miss Jamaica Worlds, Terri-Karelle Reid, Sara Lawrence and Regina Beavers, this year unveiled all the niceties that are to be a part of the Miss Jamaica World (MJW) 2010 package. Held in the Jamaica Pegasus Gardens on Wednesday, specially invited guests and media professionals were treated to the new features of the Miss Jamaica franchise.
Under the theme 'Peace and Love, Jamaica' and under the patronage of the Honourable Edmund Bartlett, minister of tourism, the pageant will have a few additions.
One such addition is a brand new Mini Cooper S, courtesy of Stewart Motors, the official car of the Miss Jamaica World 2010 pageant.
Kim Bernard of Stewart Motors said her organisation was happy to partner with Miss Jamaica World 2010.
Pageant coordinator Sara Lawrence said contestants would be working closely with the Peace and Love in Society (PALS) organisation.
The contestants would be encouraged to visit inner-city communities in a bid to reinforce the message of having peace and love throughout Jamaica.
In keeping with that message, a youth member of PALS who has contributed significant achievements to his/her inner-city community will be chosen and honoured on the night of the pageant, August 21.
For the first time in the pageant's history, the Beauty with a Purpose title will now become a fast-track event. Organisers were extremely happy about this revelation since it acknowledges that the pageant is not only about beauty.
According to a piece of correspondence to The Gleaner, "The winner's hard work, dedication and above all, results, will place her in the top 10 automatically, along with MJW talent, MJW Sport, MJW Beach Beauty and MJW Model."
