Teacher, four students injured in gang attack

Skopje (AP):

Police in Macedonia say a gang of youths wielding knives, bats and metal bars attacked a high school in the country's capital, leaving a teacher hospitalised with stab wounds and four students badly beaten.

Police officers from a special unit stopped Monday's attack and detained four suspects, aged between 17 and 19.

Rivalry

Authorities blamed the attack on a rivalry between two teenage gangs.

Macedonia Education Minister Nikola Todorov and Koce Trajanovski, the mayor of Skopje, the capital, visited the school and promised policing at the city's schools to prevent similar attacks.
