NOTEWORTHY

What happened before the shooting?

While it is certainly a fact that two wrongs do not make a right, I thought I read that the individual that the cops shot in Buckfield, St Ann had killed someone earlier. It is a bit strange that I do not hear anyone saying anything of consequence about the individual who died earlier.

Again, I would like to repeat for emphasis that the cops were certainly wrong and are not fit to be in the police force, but I doubt that the individual was a saint given that there were people shouting that he should be shot - as reported in the media.

The cellphone camera has provided a good piece of evidence, but did the camera capture what happened before? I am just as outraged as everyone else about the shooting, but since there are always two sides to a story, I would like to know about the other side and I am not quick to paint all cops with the same brush.

I know policemen who are honourable. In the same way that a citizen used his cellphone, others can do the same to expose policemen and others doing anything illegal and send it into the authorities, They may be able to rid the country of a great deal of criminals, including crook cops.

Political cart before the horse

A number of political leaders have been calling for Portmore to become the 15th parish in Jamaica. The present 14 parishes are not making the best use of our tax dollars. They are not providing the service demanded by their residents, nor are they good examples of local democracy.

The present and past national administration have both recognised the parish-council system as failures. They have expressed this by advocating its reform. If both major political parties are convinced that the system is inadequate, why should any leader advocate adding to these problems?

Our leaders always seem to put the cart before the horse when it suits their political fortunes.

Warning to airport users

It is of great importance that Jamaicans and visitors travelling from abroad be careful when leaving the airport. Recently my uncle arrived at the Norman Manley International Airport on vacation to our beautiful island, only to be followed from the airport and robbed by gunmen of all his clothing, travel documents, and money. It is a sad state that our island has come to. I would love to come back home, but will not, because of these kind of attacks.

People must be careful and watch out for any suspicious drivers who may be following them. If they suspect someone is following them, they should not go to their destination as they run the risk of being robbed.
