No fear of giving fingerprints

I know absolutely nothing about the law, but in response to attorney-at-law Mr Bert Samuels' concern about individuals who were being fingerprinted during the recent state of emergency, I would like to state that "he who is low, fears no fall".

If there are no skeletons in my closet, why should I be fearful of being fingerprinted? However, some of us need to be fearful, because our prints may be found in places not necessarily related to a crime, but nevertheless could be very embarrassing.

Jamaica, loser in political games

I totally agree that the Opposition Spokesman on National Security Mr Peter Bunting has displayed contempt for Jamaicans with his recent comments. However, both parties are playing a game of politics in which the only loser is Jamaica. After nearly three years in power, it has been more of the same.

Seventy-one people died in West Kingston, needlessly - because the Labourites refused to initiate proceedings for the extradition of an alleged criminal. Now, after making one of the biggest blunders politically and nationally, the Jamaica Labour Party is trying to make it seem that if the prime minister is tough on crime by suspending people's rights, however nominally.

What is needed is a crime plan, and an extension of the state of emergency is not it. Therefore, it's all politics. May the best party win even though the country loses.

Grow food for the family

I am aware of the problems farmers face regarding the theft of their produce. However, it should be highlighted more throughout Jamaica that growing small amounts for the family is very important. All over England, people are renting a small piece of land away from their homes (an alotment) for vegetable farming.

Some people desperate for space and living on the fifth floor use the balcony with the aid of a wooden box. This way one can ensure what is being eaten is free from harmful substances. The taste is much better and think of the financial benefits, too.
