The second annual David 'Wagga' Hunt Classic will be held today at the University of the West Indies Bowl, Mona, with three games scheduled, commencing at 2 p.m.

The curtain-raiser to this year's Classic will be between Meadhaven Football Club's senior team and Real Mona senior team.

Meadhaven's Master's team will go up against Pelicans in the afternoon's second encounter, while the evening's proceedings will conclude with two of the Corporate Area's top schools, Kingston College (KC) and Calabar High, doing battle.

Pelicans were the winner of the David 'Buggo' Haughton Trophy last year as they defeated Jamaica Nats (past Jamaica national players residing overseas) 1-0. The David 'Wagga' Hunt trophy was shared between KC and Calabar, as they played to a 1-1 draw.

Scholarship beneficiaries

Last year's inaugural classic was a success, with two students emerging scholarship beneficiaries to the tune of $600,000 each, over six years. Miguel Morrison was the recipient from KC, while Calabar's Jevaughn Foulder was the other.

The proceeds from this year's classic, along with expected additional sponsorship contributions, will go towards the continuing support of Morrison and Foulder as well as scholarships for two new students.

Hunt's family and a committee of friends and colleagues are organisers of the classic and the related scholarship programme.

David Hunt, a KC old boy, dedicated most of his life to football. He, however, also represented both KC and Jamaica in chess.

Hunt was one of Jamaica's foremost track and field analysts, co-founder of Meadhaven Football Club and led them to success in all of the Kingston and St Andrew Football Association age-group competitions.

He coached the national under-17 team and also guided Calabar and KC in the Manning Cup. He led Calabar to the Manning Cup and Oliver Shield titles in 2005, before his untimely passing in October, 2007, from a heart attack.
