WESTERN BUREAU:

NO LESS than 250 tiki torches lined the amazingly exotic beach at The Palmyra Resort and Spa last Sunday as Clear Concept carried through the rituals, christening their two-year-old 'baby', The Weekend.

It was day three of the discovery, escape and utter indulgence in Montego Bay's best-kept secret - the five-star Iberostar Grand, the landmark 18th-century Rose Hall Great House and crystal-clear sands at the city's newest resort, The Palmyra.

Day three was tagged Vertigo, an all-white affair, and the only things missing at this event were the high-rise buildings that line the streets of South Beach, Florida, because, clearly, this setting had outdone North America's strip for the rich and famous.

The DJ's blasting house music, rock, alternative, reggae and hip hop and the beautiful people - many owners of their 'own' money - looked South Beach, the only difference being that Scotty Mack and DJ Florres were representing the midwest, United States, while DJ Bambino and Kurt Riley did the honours for Jamaica.

With patrons dressed in white, very few disobeyed the instructions on the US$250, all-inclusive party ticket. One thing was for certain: there was nothing rustic about the setting; it was pure elegance, all white and crystal, soft amber and hints of blue.

Decorators Paulette and Sascha Hossman and their team at Thai Flora had again waved their magic wand.

"It's an amazing spot for parties. I love this beach; it's easy to work with. It has a good vibe. I am not sure if it's because it's an enclave," said Paulette Hossman, as she sat on one of the many day beds that sat beneath the white, taffeta-draped cabana. A throw pillow stood outside, looking as if it didn't belong, but that was quickly rectified by amber lighting that drew attention to it.

Thai Flora placed white roses and hydrangeas in the crystal vases that acted as centrepieces on the tables on the sand, while a gorgeous gazebo stood in the middle of the ocean, beckoning to the party crowd.

It is unclear how many saw the single gazebo in the ocean, as those who came to have a great time danced as if there was no tomorrow, particularly when Kurt Riley and Bambino drew for DJ Khaled and T-Pain's All I Do Is Win, Lady Gaga's Alejandro and Rihanna's Rock Star.

Between Riley and DJ Bambino, it was hit after hit from Vybz Kartel's We Did It, Richie Loop's My Cup and Beenie Man's I Am Drinking, that set this party apart from many others in this country.

The Weekend 2010 ended on an extremely promising note for the organisers, with Appleton flowing freely and Genesis martini making the rounds.

To top Sunday's event, The Palmyra chefs dished out a fantastic fare of chicken wraps in plantain and lobster stir fry.

There is no doubt that The Weekend 2011 is already marked on the party people's calendar.
