National midfielder Damian Williams is thanking Jesus, his loved ones and Portmore United for instilling the discipline in him that is enabling him to succeed in Europe.

Williams, a central midfielder, is currently a mainstay in Norwegian first-division team Nygbersund and has even scored a couple of goals.

"I am doing great in Europe. I'm having fun, but it is a lot of hard work and it takes focus. It is really a blessing to be here. Thanks to Jesus, my family, loved ones and Portmore United, I have been able to make it.

"My loved ones and Portmore United have always been hot on my heels for me to do the right things on the pitch and my lifestyle off the pitch," explained Williams, who loved the party lifestyle.

Better person

As result of the dressing down that he has received, Williams said he is now a much better person.

"I always thought that they were hard on me because they didn't like me, but I have learnt from what they have always tried to teach and now I am a better person in every aspect of my life," confessed the soon-to-be 29-year-old player, who first came to national attention while at Seba United and who also enjoyed a spell at Village United.

Williams, who will have one year of a two-and-a-half-year contract to go when this season comes to a close, has featured in every game for his club this season, both in Cup and League competitions. After 16games, Nygbersund are in fifth position and, with 14 games to go, they are still in a position to earn promotion to the Premier League.

"Playing in the top league would be great and that is what we are focused on right now. I will do everything in my power to make it happen, but if it does not happen this year I will still be happy to know that I have done my best," said Williams.

ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE

So contented is Williams at his new club that he is not concerning himself with contractual matters, even after the departure of his national teammate, Eric Vernan, whose contract ended recently.

"It is great here. I am getting paid to do what I love and I am happy with this team. They love me. I start every game, but you never know," he said. "Anything is possible and when it comes to the time to look about a new contract, then I will focus on that. Right now, I am focused on taking care of business on the field."
