Members of Scotiabank's netball team shed tears of joy after they recorded an emphatic 21-14 win over General Accident in the final of the Business House Open League competition at Leila Robinson Courts last Saturday.

The victory was a historic one for the bankers, who were recording their first final win over their General Accident in more than seven years. Former national representative Marsha Murphy was chief destroyer for Scotiabank as she scored 18 goals from 21 attempts. Murphy received support from captain Naudia Brown, who scored three goals from four tries.

Wayne Shaw, manager of Scotiabank, was delighted with his team's performance and said he was very confident that they could retain their senior league title.

Excellent performance

"It was an excellent performance because the team has been training all season for this title, and to have won it so easily was a great feat for us," said Shaw. "I think that my goal shooter Marsha Murphy and defender Kamieka Sherwood had excellent games because they were the most outstanding players for us.

"I think the win will give us a lot of confidence in our quest to retain our league title because my players strongly believe that they can repeat their victory over General Accident," he said.

Shaw added: "They also would like to win it for their coach Winston Nevers, and judging from their performance in training I know that they will."

Murphy was also very happy with her team's performance.

"I am feeling really great to know that we were able to beat them today," said Murphy.

Scotiabank dominated the first half, which saw them holding a comfortable 11-6 lead at half-time. Murphy then scored nine of her team's 10 goals in the second period, which propelled her side to a comfortable victory.

Former national players Margaret Lawrence, 11 goals from 12 attempts, and player/coach Oberon Pitterson, three goals from eight tries, were the scorers for General Accident, who were making a return to the competition after a one-year absence.
