Camerons welcome daughter

It is an image that will melt the hearts of even the fiercest political enemies.

Cradling his newly born daughter, British Prime Minister David Cameron is, in a single camera click, transformed from world statesman to humble everyman: a doting father who cannot believe his good fortune.

Wrapped in a white shawl and sporting more hair than half the Cabinet, Florence Rose Endellion, who was born weighing 6lbs 1oz following a caesarean section, looks a perfect picture of health. Her father looks supremely contented.

The pictures are the first of Florence to be released since she was born in the Royal Cornwall hospital in Truro on Tuesday, an early delivery in the middle of the family summer holiday in the West Country.

The Camerons' fourth child, Florence, described by her father as an "unbelievably beautiful girl", was given the middle name Endellion - a village in Cornwall - to reflect the county of her birth.

The Camerons' first child, Ivan, died in February 2009. The couple have two other children, Nancy and Arthur.
