Petrojam, Wisynco win Business House titles

Petrojam and Wisynco Group were last Saturday crowned Kingston and St Andrew Business House Football Association Division One and Division Two champions, respectively, after recording 2-1 and 2-0 victories over Carib Cement and Wray and Nephew at the University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona Bowl.

Petrojam triumphed over Carib Cement through a ninth-minute penalty from Aphas Bernard and 90th-minute strike from David Stultz.

Wisynco, on the other hand, copped the coveted league and knockout double, on an 81st-minute strike from Omar Washington and a 90th-minute assurance goal from leading goalscorer, Girvon Brown.

Bad start

In the feature game, Carib Cement got off to a bad start after Oneil Gayle brought down Petrojam's Richard Monroe in the box and he was red-carded by referee Kevin Thomas.

Bernard then stepped up to give his team the lead.

It was not game over, however, for Carib Cement, as they fought hard despite their one-man disadvantage and four minutes later they equalised through Fabian Nethersole.

Petrojam, however, were not to be denied and in the final minute Stultz curled a shot from 30 yards out past goalkeeper, Russell Hosang, much to the delight of their spectators.

Petrojam, for their efforts, took home $60,000 and Carib Cement $40,000.

Curtain raiser

The curtain raiser was equally entertaining, with both Wisynco and Wray and Nephrew trading punches until the 81st minute, when Washington unleashed a powerful shot from the edge of the 18-yard box that beat goalkeeper Julian McLeish to his right.

Brown then netted his 16th goal of the season, when he capitalised on goalkeeper McLeish's poor clearance in the final minute and tapped into an empty goal.

Wisynco, who also defeated Wray and Nephew in the knockout final, finished the season without conceding a goal.

Wisynco pocketed $40,000, while Wray & Nephew took home $20,000.

The season will climax on Wednesday, when Petrojam and Wisynco Group meet in the Challenge Cup final at the National Water Commission playing field, Mona, at 4 pm.
