Harbour View, Charlotte Eagles to clash on Wednesday
Digicel Premier League (DPL) champions, Harbour View, will on Wednesday entertain United Soccer League contenders, Charlotte Eagles, in a friendly international at the Harbour View Mini Stadium at 7 p.m.
The match-up, which is the first of a five-game series by the visitors, who are on a two-week tour, will see Harbour View using the game as preparation as they continue the defence of their DPL crown, with a number of young and upcoming players getting the opportunity to showcase their skills against international opposition.
"It should be an interesting contest," remarked Harbour View general manager, Clyde Jureidini.
"We are expecting to be without two or three of our regular starters who are expected to travel with the national team for the friendly international against Peru," he added, pointing to Jamaica's friendly international that will be played at the Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale tomorrow.
Another form of exposure
"But we have a number of junior national and former national players and will be looking at it as another form of exposure," he added.
Harbour View are expected to be without central midfielder Richard Edwards, forward Kavin Bryan and central defender Dicoy Williams, who are scheduled to depart with the Reggae Boyz today.
The team, however, is expected to feature regular starters such as midfielders Mario Campbell, John Ross Campbell and Kimarley Brissett, forwards Andre Fagan, Rafeik Thomas and Marcelino Blackburn, and defender Montrose Phinn.
A free coaching course, which is expected to feature 50 Jamaica coaches, will also be staged by Charlotte and Global Soccer Ministries at the Harbour View Mini Stadium on Friday and Saturday. The course will focus on youth football development.
The Charlotte Eagles next match on their Jamaica tour will be against a Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) All-Star team next week Tuesday.
