Models hit UK snag
The Miss Global International, while still expected to be a smashing pageant, has been hamstrung by visa restrictions in the United Kingdom (UK).
According to the pageant's organiser, Lachu Ramchandani, there are a number of girls, particularly from African countries, who are having trouble making the trip because they are having trouble acquiring visas to pass through the UK.
"Normally, visa issues are dealt with by the countries the girls are coming from. This time around, we are having to send letter after letter, because the UK has been denying visas," said Ramchandani.
The Miss Global International competition, in its sixth year, is dominated by girls from African countries, a contrast to the Miss Universe competition, which Latin girls seem to flourish in.
That being the case, Ramchandani is concerned, because, according to him, he wants to afford the opportunity to girls from the African region, the opportunity showcases the beauty their continent has to offer.
Confirmation
"The problem isn't just the African countries though. Remember, even girls from India have to secure visas from the UK, because they have to travel through England on their way here," explained Ramchandani.
The competition already has confirmation from The Bahamas, Canada, Zimbabwe, the Republic of Cape Verde, Egypt, Nigeria, Libya, the British Virgin Islands, Haiti, Ghana, the United States Virgin Islands, Belgium, Zambia and Jamaica.
According to Ramchandani, while the visa issue is problematic, there is no reason to panic, as the list of confirmed models attending is rich, and smatters of a truly international experience.
There has been no answer from the Home Office in the UK, yet.
