Grand Cabaret fancied for feature

The Pick-9 starts anew at Caymanas Park tomorrow, having been caught by a lucky punter who walked away with $1.7 million. It now restarts with the guaranteed minimum of $1 million.

The Pick-9 will embrace all nine races on the card, while the first Super-6 will be conducted from race one to six, and the overlapping Super-6 from race four to nine.

We look at the second Super-6 which kicks off with a 3-y-o maiden claiming race ($550,000- $450,000) to be contested by seven starters over the round-five course. Here, the experienced KISSING CHRISSY gets a golden opportunity to win a race at last.

She has stepped with better in the past and although horses such as DIAMOND VALLEY and DOCTOR DEVIOUS are steadily improving, KISSING CHRISSY, from the in-form stables of Anthony 'Baba' Nunes, should oblige, based on her fair seventh to G-FORCE over the distance on August 28. The season's top apprentice Aaron Chatrie rides her from the convenient mark of 51.0kg.

MR THEOPHILUS, who has beaten better in the not-too-distant past, gets the nod over MYRTLE WAY and FREEDOM PRINCE in the fifth race over 1300 metres, while it should be Dick Cardenas' mount GRAND CABARET in the sixth for maiden three-year-olds over 1600 metres.

Driving finish

Trained by Spencer Chung, GRAND CABARET caught the eye when beaten in a driving finish by the fast-closing OCHUN over this trip when fitted with the blinkers on August 25 and with only 52.0kg, should go one better at the expense of LESTERAE and YES WE WILL.

Next on the programme is the Winnie Anglin Memorial Cup feature to be contested by 15 maiden three-year-old fillies over the round five course. The field includes seven newcomers, two of whom should fight out the finish. They are PALACE GUARD (Dane Nelson up) from the stables of Fitzroy Glispie and the Wayne DaCosta-trained LUSCIOUS with champion jockey Omar Walker aboard. Both are well forward in condition, but PALACE GUARD has been showing good speed at exercise and thus gets the vote.

I also like REAL MINISTER (vastly improved) to win the eighth race for overnight allowance horses over the straight five course, and down-in-class MEDSTAR in the closing $180,000 claiming race, again over the straight.
