David Nicholls is no stranger to success in the William Hill Ayr Gold Cup, and he can get his sixth win on the board courtesy of VICTOIRE DE LYPHAR.

His last success came two years ago with Regal Parade, and the man dubbed the 'Sprint King' has also saddled Funfair Wane to two wins, along with Continent and Bahamian Pirate.

VICTOIRE DE LYPHAR has certainly proved his mettle so far this term, winning at Doncaster off a mark of 83 before shrugging off a 7lb rise to land a hot three-year-old event at York.

The handicapper dished out another 7lb hike for that success and VICTOIRE DE LYPHAR only just failed to strike again when edged out by a head in the Stewards' Cup consolation race at Goodwood, proving that plenty of potential still remains.

Debated

The draw at Ayr is always much debated, and with five runners being drawn 10 or below in the last 10 years and just as many starting from draws higher than 10, it is really anyone's guess as to which side holds sway.

Roger Charlton's DEFINIGHTLY won by six lengths in his Ayr trial at Goodwood last time and while he missed the cut for the main event, the Silver Cup is his for the taking.

RIMTH can bag a deserved Pattern success in the Laundry Cottage Stud Firth of Clyde Stakes.

A victor on her racecourse bow, she was far from disgraced when third behind HOORAY IN THE LOWTHER, with the winner looking a real class act following a subsequent Group race success.

Although beaten by a nose when dropped to Listed level last time, RIMTH ran a very game race and must be one for the short-list here.
