ONLINE FEEDBACK

Published:Monday | September 20, 2010 | 12:00 AM

Below are edited excerpts from comments posted by online readers reacting to yesterday's lead story 'Peter & Portia COMBO' about a joining of forces of former rivals, Dr Peter Phillips and Portia Simpson Miller, to wrest power from the Jamaica Labour Party.

Stupid electorate?

People saying that the People's National Party (PNP) should not be returned to power might have another guess coming.

The Jamaica Labour Party is superior at running the country, but the PNP is superior at winning elections.

We talk, correctly, about the 18.5 disastrous PNP years, so explain why the JLP barely won the last election.

My fear is not the 'stupid' PNP part. It's the stupid Jamaican electorate. It's the same electorate who booted Edward Seaga after he got the economy to be growing at five per cent per annum. And who did we replace him with? The same team that destroyed the economy in the 1970s. If that is not stupidity, tell me what is.

A good media campaign

The Portia-Peter PNP 'knockout punch' is a good media blitz campaign but when push comes to shove, Jamaica has no real choice for leadership. It is a sad commentary that the future of the country and its people is reduced to who is superior at winning elections rather than who can lead the country with honesty and a visionary purpose.

Look at their constituencies

If you truly want to see the leadership of Portia Simpson Miller and Dr Peter Phillips, just take a quick tour through their constituencies. These people have no new ideas, but the usual contempt for the people.

Political ploy

Dr Peter Phillips should have some sense of self-worth. This is nothing more than a political tactic! He has been dragged all over the party, pushed to the back and defeated at the polls for party presidency.

I guess this is some way of showing gratitude for highlighting the Dudus matter. I can't understand how people of his calibre are lead by Portia Simpson Miller.
