St James High School rebounded from Wednesday's surprise 4-1 loss to Green Pond High School in emphatic style yesterday afternoon, turning in a clinical performance to upstage arch-rivals Cornwall College 2-0 in their big Zone A derby, of the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA)/Pepsi, Digicel daCosta Cup rural area senior schoolboy football match at Jarrett Park in Montego Bay.

In a game in which they showed much of the application that was missing in the contest against Green Pond, the St James High team scored through midfielders Ricardo Morris and Randy Myrie in the 40th and 80th minutes, respectively.

St James also wasted a penalty in the 86th minute, when Scion Peterkin struck the upright with his shot.

Decent performance

"It was a pretty decent performance from the boys because they were under pressure after our defeat against Green Pond," said Pastor Hugh Solomon, the coach of the St James High team. "This is the kind of form we will be looking to maintain for the remainder of the season."

By virtue of their win, the St James High team, which has now moved up to seven points, replaced Cornwall College atop Zone A. Interestingly, Cornwall College, which have six points, slipped to third place as, in another game in the group, Spot Valley blanked Muschett 2-0 to jump into second place with seven points.

In Zone F, the big match-up between champions St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) and early leaders, Munro College, ended in a 0-0 draw as while both teams created good opportunities, they both failed to get on the scoresheet. As a result of the draw, Munro remain leaders of the group with 10 points, while STETHS moved up to eight.

"We got enough chances to have won this game but we didn't show enough composure before the goal," said STETHS' coach, Andrew Edwards. "Our team is a work in progress so we will keep working hard to get better."

In Zone B, Rusea's continue to show ominous form, blanking the previously unbeaten Frome Technical 2-0 to make it four wins from four matches. The Rusea's team, which has now fired in 12 goals and conceded one, scored through Andrew Walker and Jermaine Woozencraft.

In the big Zone I clash between former champions and long-standing rivals, Glenmuir High and Garvey Maceo, the score was 0-0, which leaves both teams unbeaten after four games each. Glenmuir remain the zone leaders with 10 points, while Garvey Maceo stayed in mid-table on five points.
