Below are edited excerpts from comments posted online by readers reacting to yesterday's lead article 'Turks tussle' about younger Jamaica Labour Party members challenging "the old guard".
- Dinosaurs waiting to die
This is much ado about nothing. Look at the labour party in Britain - it has a new leader who incidentally happens to be young; not so in Jamaica, these dinosaurs want to die in office.
It's a pity there appears to be no such zest for change in the People's National Party as the second-tier leadership is actually worse than those currently leading the party.
I am not fond of Daryl Vaz and to me it would be a tragedy for him to take over that role, but then again many Jamaicans seems to have a love affair with our corrupt political system and its leaders.

- Popularity vs substance
What's all the fanfare about Daryl Vaz? What makes him 'high profile'? When that man talk, you sometimes have to wonder if he is an elected representative. It seems like Mr Vaz has more admirers than a Christopher Tufton or an Andrew Holness (who seem to be men of substance) in the party.

- A disaster in the making
Well, basically Vaz is pushing himself into front position. This man want to take over control of Jamaica real bad. You can see, feel and smell his need for power. It would be a great shame if the others capitulate to him as I see him as disastrous for this country and its people.

- Good for the party
This would be a good thing for the party. The old politicians are too embedded in the traditional way of governing. The majority of Jamaicans who went out and cast their votes in the last election were younger people who were voting for the first time. In so doing, they have shown interest in the affairs of their county.
Many of these younger generation are very brilliant and will bring to Jamaican politics new and innovative ideas which would move Jamaica forward and out of the doldrums that it is in.
It is definitely time to bring in new and young blood into the party. The old members are too comfortable running Jamaica as if the land of Jamaica was bequeathed to them and theirs!
Also, Jamaica is a democratic country, so there is no tussle here.
