Batsman Brenton Parchment was left of out Jamaica's 14-man squad for next month's West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) President's Cup one-day tournament, which will be held here in Jamaica.

Parchment, who recently returned from league cricket in England and had a topscore of 78 during the trial matches, failed to make the team after a series of average performances at the regional level, especially in limited overs cricket.

The 28-year-old, who was a member of Jamaica's squad to the recent Caribbean Twenty20 championship, but made a one-ball duck in his solitary innings, is widely believed to have lost his spot to exciting 20-year-old right-handed batsman, Horace Miller.

Another senior batsman, Donovan Pagon, who was hoping to make a return to the one-day set-up after being omitted for the past two seasons, also failed to make the cut.

"They (Parchment and Donovan Pagon) have both played for Jamaica and the West Indies in the past. However, they are now struggling," said chairman of selectors, Ruddy Williams.

"Parchment played a good innings during the trials, but we have to pay attention to all the other players who have also done well.

"Pagon, in the meanwhile, has not represented Jamaica in one-dayers in recent tournaments and has not done enough to earn himself a spot."

Parchment represented the West Indies in two Tests and seven one-day internationals, averaging 13.5 in the former and 17.42 in limited overs cricket.

Pagon, who is also 28, has played two Tests for the West Indies and has an average of 12.33.

The squad, which has no newcomer, sees the return of Marlon Samuels, who in July made his regional return after serving an International Cricket Council ban.

The right-handed Miller, who is a former West Indies Under-19 representative and made his regional four-day debut earlier this year - after being part of the one-day team for the past two seasons - is also the back-up wicketkeeper in the squad.

First of season

The one-day tournament, which is the first of the 2010-11 WICB first-class season, will be held here between October 14 and 24 across three venues, Sabina Park, Chedwin Park, and the Trelawny Multi-purpose Stadium.

The players, who were on trial but not selected to the final 14, have been put on standby and are expected to be involved in three warm-up matches, which the squad will play before its first match against the Windward Islands on October 13 at the Trelawny Multi-purpose Stadium.

Squad: Chris Gayle (captain), Xavier Marshall, Danza Hyatt, Marlon Samuels, Tamar Lambert, Horace Miller, Brendan Nash, Carlton Baugh, David Bernard, Odean Brown, Nikita Miller, André Russell, Andrew Richardson and Krishmar Santokie.
