Kimone Boothe, Gleaner Writer
If you haven't seen her photos in corporate ads across the country, you may have recognised her from her entry in the Miss Jamaica World 2010 beauty pageant competition, which was held recently at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel, New Kingston.
She is Patricia Hue, restaurant manager, model and Xxtreme Lash stylist. Hue's flair and love for fashion outstrips the boundaries and borders of ordinary.
What is your most memorable experience from the Miss Jamaica World competition?
My most memorable experience was when we went to Chukka Blue Adventure Tours. Horseback riding in the water was crazy fun, it was an activity where we could let loose and we all had a blast.
As a model, how has entering the pageant, helped to boost your confidence?
During the pageant, we were constantly presented to the public and through this, I learnt how important it was to be confident and sure of myself. So this experience has definitely helped me to improve on that aspect.
What motivates you?
I am self-motivated by the goals I set for myself and finding the inner strength to achieve it. For example, prior to the Miss Jamaica World pageant, I knew I had to put in a lot of work re my body and I lost 25lb. This accomplishment has continued to motivate and remind me that I can achieve anything I put my mind to.
Describe your style in four words and tell us why you chose those four words.
Simple: I am more of a laid-back type of girl ... I like to be comfortable. So on a regular day you can catch me in a tank top, jeans and a pair of slippers.
Classy: I think I wear appropriate clothing for my body type and I know what suits me without over doing it. I stick to what looks good on me rather than trying to wear the latest styles.
Sexy but conservative: I like to wear cute, short dresses at times but I try not to reveal too much. For instance, if I am showing legs then I show less cleavage and vice versa.
Tell us five things about yourself that no one would guess about you?
I love to laugh
Travelling excites me
I am an animal lover
I enjoy listening to all genres of music except country and I find pleasure in exercising and keeping fit.
Bonus: What piece of advice would you give to young girls who have dreams of being a model and some day entering Miss Jamaica World?
Go for your dreams and give it your all. Confidence is key but, most importantly, be yourself and enjoy the experience. In regards to the pageant, there can only be one winner but lots of exposure and opportunities for the other contestants ... So it's a win if you just remain positive.
