The Gleaner spoke with DJ Shine whose blazing mixes are keeping parties rocking.

How long have you been in this field?

I have been a DJ for eight years.

Where have you studied?

I studied at St Catherine High.

Why this career path?

I decided to choose this career path because of the love I have for the music.

What was the process like when you first started in this field?

I started by downloading music and installing software on computers. From then, I realised I really wanted to make a career out of this

What are you currently doing to further develop your ambitions for your career path?

I am doing mix CDs, making contact with promoters and doing my own market research to see how best to improve on my craft.

What do you hope to achieve in 10 years?

I hope to achieve bigger success and becoming Jamaica's most wanted DJ on the international scene.

What drives and inspires your career path?

I am driven by the determination to succeed and do well. I am inspired by everyday experiences.

What do you have to offer as the future of the next generation?

I am bringing to the table determination, the drive and will to become the best at what I do, reliability, integrity and honesty.

Do you consider yourself to be revolutionary, and how do you plan to change the game or your field?

Yes, I do consider myself to be revolutionary. I am changing the face of the game with my own style, diversity in music selection and a bit of charisma.

Besides access to education, what do you think needs to be done in order to transform the youth in Jamaica?

There needs to be strong family values in place for persons to operate within the laws of the land. A strong family support system is very important.

I consider myself to be a leader and a trendsetter and a the best at what I do

Old men rule the world. True or false, and why?

The younger generation plays a more significant role in how the world is run today. From the latest trends in technology, fashion, music, entertainment and lifestyle, Generation X has definitely stepped up to the challenge in effectively making its presence felt.

What's been the most challenging part of making a name for yourself in your field?

Overcoming the obstacles that exist.
