The annual Caribbean Shipping Association's (CSA) open golf tournament held on Saturday, October 8, at the Cinnamon Hill Golf Course came down to a nail-biting finish.

The tournament, which was affected by rain, saw the best nine holes being tallied to determine the winner. Ben Simms, vice-president of sales for Latin America and the Caribbean at Westbrook Technologies Incorporated, narrowly took home the title after beating Trevor Riley, general manager of the Shipping Association of Jamaica (SAJ), and local golfers, Sherold Philibert and Winston Watson, who all tied for second place. Simms beat them by one point.

John Dunbar won the prize for the straightest drive and Trevor Riley won the prize for closest to the pin.

The CSA Challenge Golf Tournament is an annual event of the CSA held on the weekend leading up to the association's annual general meeting, conference and exhibition.

This year, the format was tweaked to allow persons not registered for the conference, including the local golfing community, to play alongside delegates for an open trophy, which was sponsored by Transocean Shipping Limited.

The CSA Challenge Trophy will go to the delegate who got the highest points.

Sponsors for the event were Transocean Shipping Limited, Port Computer Services, Cash-man Machines International, Kingston Wharves Limited, Seafreight Agencies and the Shipping Association of Jamaica.

The conference, currently underway at The Rose Hall Resort and Spa in Montego Bay, is aimed at charting the way forward for the Caribbean's shipping industry. There are approximately 320 delegates registered for the conference which ends tomorrow with a gala banquet. Speakers have been drawn from a range of global shipping industry professionals.
