Bridgmohan wins Dixiana Futurity Stakes
LEXINGTON, Kentucky (CMC):
Shaun Bridgmohan earned another big pay cheque when he steered JB's Thunder to victory in the $400,000 Dixiana Futurity Stakes on Saturday's 11-race card at Keeneland.
The enterprising Jamaican jockey maintained his status as the most successful stakes race-winning jockey from the Caribbean, with his 14th added-money feature for the year in North America.
Going off at odds of 5-1, JB's Thunder took the lead out of the gate, and never eased up, running away to a four-length victory over Santiva under Javier Castellano.
The two-year-old bay colt completed 1,700 metres on the Polytrack in one minute, 44.12 seconds.
"I just told Shaun, 'Take what they give you'," said trainer Al Stall Jr "I had a feeling he'd leave on his toes. He had been so sharp. He had a chance to school around here and get comfortable."
He added: "Obviously, he did and Shaun just took it to 'em. When he cut the corner a little bit on that other speed horse in the first turn and he threw his ears up and it looked like a replay of the Saratoga race (in which J B's Thunder won a maiden race on turf)."
JB's Thunder is now undefeated in her last two starts after winning at first asking on the turf at Saratoga in August.
Bridgmohan put the animal clear early and Typhoon Slew, under Julien Leparoux, made a modest challenge leaving the far turn, only to have Bridgmohan kick JB's Thunder clear.
