Will the Government collapse?

Published:Saturday | October 16, 2010 | 12:00 AM

The Editor, Sir:

More often unspoken than not, today, the terrible questions still remain in the back of many people's minds: will the Christopher 'Dudus' Coke affair bring down the current Jamaica Labour Party government in Jamaica? And should it?

Certainly, it is difficult to believe Dudus is innocent of the charges and almost as difficult now, particularly after all the many reports, to believe the Golding administration had done nothing unethical, if not immoral, to try to protect this 'big man' from the reach of the long, now international, arms of justice.

It is often said that evil has many faces, that corruption corrupts all with equal pleasure, and that man lives inescapably in a world of sin. But I still can't help but believe, as well, that for all coins, there are two sides, just as the man from Nazareth is reported to have suggested some 20 centuries ago.

In this case, therefore, it must also be said that good must have as many faces as does evil, and that honesty and truth will spread themselves throughout the world, just as all rivers run to the sea, and, finally, that man's sinful ways will find their own justice, if not in this life, then surely in the next.

I am, etc.,
