Cricket clubs host lyme at Melbourne
The Wavell Hinds-led Cricket Club Activities Committee (CCAC) will host an after-match lyme at Melbourne Oval today, following the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) President's Cup Group A clash between Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago at Sabina Park.
The event, which is the first of the newly formed committee - whose mandate is to rekindle interests in social activities at club and parish associations - is expected to feature a number of past and current national and regional players.
Other members of the CCAC executive include Melbourne Cricket Club president Courtney Walsh, Kensington CC president Dave Cameron, St Catherince CC's Ransford Evans and Kingston CC's Simon Jackson, as well as national players Chris Gayle and Tamar Lambert.
improve infrastructure
"As a committee, our aim is reignite interest in local cricket clubs and associations around the island so that they may be able to improve their infrastructure and competences," said Hinds, who plays for Kensington and is chairman of the committee.
"We want to bring back club life so as to rebuild camaraderie and help to develop young members of clubs and associations in a more meaningful way.
"We are therefore asking for the public to come out and give us the support, as for Jamaica's cricket to improve our club culture needs to improve," he explained.
Also expected to be in attendance are members of the other four competing teams in the President Cup - Barbados, Guyana, and Windward and Leeward Islands.
The event is being sponsored by Supreme Ventures Limited and Wray & Nephew and, according to Hinds, he is inviting to other private sector interests to be part of the venture today, and going forward.
