Situated on Main Street in the tourist town of Ocho Rios, Passage to India serves nothing but authentic Indian cuisine.

According to co-owner, Rajni Sud, since the restaurant opened 11 years ago, it has remained consistent in its offerings, appealing to local and foreigners alike. "We believe in authenticity of our product and so all our chefs come here straight from India."

Sud's partner Rajiv Bhatnagar, says it is a very good choice for vegetarians. "Vegetarians find it to be a very good alternative. When persons go to some restaurants and ask for a vegetarian dish all they can get are salads. But the Indian cuisine has so many options and different vegetables".

The chefs responsible for the delectable servings at the restaurant are Deebchand Singh and Rameshwan Persaud who have been in the industry for seven and 26 years respectively.

Looking forward to The Gleaner-sponsored Restaurant Week, they anticipate a lot more work but are looking forward to the support from diners. "We expect more people to come and that way we can also promote the restaurant", notes Singh. And for Persuad, "I like when it's crowded. I prefer when more people are here."

Between the two, when they get the chance to cook at home, they will most likely prepare, dal along with rice and chicken (curry or roast).
