FALMOUTH, Trelawny:

Boys' Town carved out a 2-1 victory over Village United in the Digicel Premier League football match at the Elliston Wakeland Centre in Falmouth yesterday.

Victory kept Boys' Town third in the standings, as they moved to 16 points, the same as Water-house, who beat Arnett Gardens 2-0 at Waterhouse Mini Stadium in the late game. Waterhouse, however, have a superior goal difference.

Boys' Town's first goal was scored in the 11th minute from a header from Dean Thompson. The assist came from Alrick Samuels, who squared the ball for Thompson to finish.

Series of blunders

The second goal was scored by Michael Campbell through a clinically placed free kick.

The goal came from a series of blunders, starting from the play which caused the free kick to the ineffective two-man wall, which caused the ball to go between the players and on to the goal, where the keeper misjudged his attempt and dived over the ball.

Village's consolation was a beauty from Orlando McBayne in the 37th minute. He was fed a through pass and shot from a 45-degree angle to beat the goalkeeper.

Soggy conditions

The game was played under soggy conditions because of the general rainfall now affecting the nation, but this did not prevent good play, as both teams strung some good passes together.

Goalscorer Campbell stood out as the thorn in Village's flesh and could be regarded as the man of the match.

Oliver Trail of Village United, on the other hand, gave Boys' Town some trouble, influencing the bench players of the victors to oftentime shout to their teammates,"Watch out for Trail!"

Winning coach, Andrew Price, was pleased. "As you see, the condition was not good and Village played hard, but we dug deep for the win," said Price. "It is wins like these which will give us a chance at winning the crown."
